Getting Started
Your bus has different routes. By looking at a bus schedule, you can determine which number route or routes run nearest to your starting and ending points. Schedules can be found at the transit centers or online. They include route maps, bus times and transfer points.
Go to the Bus Stop
Each bus is marked with a number and/or a route name or destination. The bus stop sign will have a corresponding number or route name or destination to the bus you wish to board. The buses run on a regular, reliable schedule. It is best to get to your stop at least five minutes early.
Getting on Board
As the bus approaches, look for the number and/or route or destination on the front of the bus to see if it’s the one you need. If you are not sure that this is the bus that will take you where you need to go, ask the bus driver. The drivers are happy to help and can answer your questions.
Paying the Fare
Fares vary by system, but each offers cash fares with discounts for children, seniors and disabled individuals. In addition, each system offers tickets and passes that you can purchase at various locations. Tickets and passes provide discounts and convenience to frequent riders.
A fare box is located next to the driver. The fare box takes both cash and change. Simply put the money into the fare box. Use exact fare, neither the fare box nor the bus driver will give you change. If you are using tickets, these can also be put in the cash slot of the fare box. If you are using a bus pass, simply hold it up so the driver can see it.
Transferring Buses
Ask the bus driver for a transfer after you pay your fare. The transfer will be good until the time listed on it. Show that transfer to the driver of the next bus. If you use a bus pass, you will not need a transfer, just show your pass again.
Take a Seat
We ask that you keep the seats at the front of the bus open for seniors and disabled individuals. Also, we recommend that for your safety, you take a seat instead of standing.
Enjoying the Ride
There is no eating or drinking permitted on the bus. To ensure a pleasant ride for all passengers, we ask that you use a headset if you listen to music. We also ask that you keep the aisle clear so everyone can move around easily and without risk of tripping on any items placed in the aisle.
Signaling for the Bus to Stop
About one block before you stop, pull on the cord above the window or push one of the vertical strips on the side of the bus by the windows to signal the driver. If you are unsure of where your stop is, ask the driver to call out your stop when you board.
